The Definitive Guide to Selling Tickets to your family

Introduction

Hello there! The choir comm has been constantly reminding you to sell tickets and sell tickets and sell tickets. However, there has not been much guidance on how to sell tickets. Thus, your friendly secretary and treasurer has put forth this guide to sell tickets.

When selling tickets, it is of utmost importance to sell to your family and extended family. They are the easiest and most supportive people to sell to. With a little coaxing, they will come for your performance.

What to do

Immediate family (including grandparents)

1. Approach your family members directly and tell them about the performance. Let them know about the date, time, and place. Inform them about the prices.
2. Wait for them to think it over. Allow them to build interest. It is likely that since it is their son performing, they would come.
3. Collect ticket money and pay for ticket. Assuming that there are only 2 parents, 1 sibling and 2 grandparents, you would have 5 tickets.

Extended family

1. Approach your extended family directly. This can be face to face or through a message. It is best to use a direct message as it is more sincere. Do not just post a quick "pls come to performance kthxbye" on a group chat. This is insincere. Also don't just post a rhapsody poster on its own. The poster won't talk. You will. Tell them about the performance date, time, place and ticket price. Let them think about it.
2. Give them time to think about it. They need to build intrest. This is the time to evaluate whether I have time to watch?, or do I need to make special arrangements?. They may have doubts regarding the concert. Is it for me? Will I enjoy it? (refer to annex below)
3. Clarify doubts. As they evaluate the feasibility of going to the concert, answer their queries. Let it be lighthearted and sincere. Empathise with their situation and make them feel comfortable coming to the concert.
4. Seal the deal. At this point, they would likely have made up their mind on whether they want to buy tickets. You might want to make this process easier by using the sales pitches (refer to annex below) to make it a good deal.
5. Collect money. If they have agreed to the sale, explain how the ticketing process works and inform them of the ticket prices. Ensure you have recorded the information corectly. Thank them for supporting you and have a nice day. If they still decline, thank them and move on. Remember they are your customers and so you must treat them with respect.

It is likely you would have anywhere between 5 to 10 sales from this. Counting worst case sales, it is still a good 10 tickets sold.

Suggested Sales Pitches

1. The songs are simple and easy to follow. If they are worried that they might not be able to appreciate the music and therefore not worth coming, tell them that the songs are catchy tunes, with many being folk songs. No need for any specific musical taste or preference.
2. This is the opposite point. If they have discerning taste in music, there are more technical pieces like 双城恋曲 and Guitarra, of which our past performances are award winning. Come to our performance to experience that shiver after shiver down the spine.
3. Price. For 15 dollars, you get the experience of watching a choir perform at the Esplanade. It is not the school auditorium, not SOTA or even VCH. It's the Esplanade. It's award winning. The sound can be heard in full detail in the esplanade.
4. Don't be fooled by the videos put out on youtube. Watching a performance on youtube and experiencing it yourself is a different thing. The atmosphere is different. See things that is not captured on video.
5. Watch you perform. This is a good opportunity to support you on stage and show you care. There is dancing and singing. Really a once in a lifetime experience.
